About Article Submitter Pro
Article Submitter Pro came about as a collaboration between Ken Nadreau and Hubert Daul in the fall of 2004. It was just an idea for something that would streamline the long and tedious process of article submissions.
Nothing else had shown up on the market at that time, and there were relatively few (about 200) article directories in existence. But we knew something was about to change and we wanted everyone to be ready for it.
The history
In 2002, Ken wrote an eBook called "Get Niche Quick" that really didn't do so well even though it had some solid, up to date information in it. Few people ever bought it, but fortunately one of those people was Hubert. They didn't know each other prior to this.
After reading it, Hubert contacted Ken and asked him what niche would be best suited for him to get into. Ken asked him what topics he knew, and Hubert replied, "programming."
"You know," said Ken, "one thing the marketing world needs badly is an article submitter."
"I can do that," replied Hubert.
Over the next year, Ken and Hubert worked together formulating and planning until Article Submitter Pro was born. It was finally launched in the late summer of 2005.
Of course at the time there were only around 250 article directories on the web, so the initial concept was to make the software fully automatic and have it submit an article to all the directories with the click of a button.
However, after a little more research and testing, it was discovered that, even though there were only a small number of directories, each of them had different requirements for authors to fulfill. What was especially obvious was the vast difference in category choices each provided.
So the objective changed to make Article Submitter Pro work in such a way that honored the wishes of the article directory owners, an at the same time, make an author's article submission as well formatted, professional, and targeted as possible.
It wasn't realized at the time, but making Article Submitter Pro semi-automatic helped its usefulness over the course of time as article directories took steps to prevent automatic submissions by adding "captchas" and other forms of security measures.
It also worked out well as more and more article directories came online with an even wider array of category choices. To date, there are over 20,000 different categories and sub-categories throughout the 1,400+ article directories making it virtually impossible to automate the choice and do an article's relevance any good.

How it evolved over time
By the end of 2005, shortly after the launch of Article Submitter Pro, a new article directory script was written and was offered free to anyone who wanted to own an article directory. It was called Article Dashboard.
This free script created an explosion of new article directories that all began vying for submissions. The number of article directories soared from a mere 200 to 600+ within a month's time.
The script introduced a strict registration process that required anyone who wanted to submit an article to become a registered author. This meant that every author who wanted to submit articles to every new directory had to register separately to each one, making the whole process even more time consuming.
So beyond simply adding these new directories into Article Submitter Pro, something had to be incorporated that would also assist in the registration process.
RegAssist was created within the software to help a user register for the directories and also store that login information to be used during the submission process.
Another development that came about due the expanding number of article directories was the desire of people submitting articles to use different author names to target different niche categories.
And so the Author Identity window was made so a user could go in and create an unlimited number of author names, attach different email addresses and website urls to them, and choose which one they want to submit with for any given submission.
By this time (mid 2006), changes being made to Article Submitter Pro in order to keep up with the new scenery of article directories and user requests were coming fast and furious. So the next logical change came in the form of automatic upgrades. Now if there is any changes to the software, an update takes place a soon as the user opens the program to the desktop.
This also made it easier to add directories, and in some instances, remove them quickly in the event a directory got hacked and filled with viruses.
At the time of writing this, there are now over 1,400 common article directories, and Article Submitter Pro can submit to all of them. New directory scripts like Article Beach and Article Freindly have cropped up, but Article Submitter Pro has no problem submitting to any of them because of the research and time taken to build it to stand the test of time.
There are some article directories who, for whatever reason, choose to stay exclusive and cater to just a small number of authors. So naturally their requests are honored, but those among their elite still wish to submit articles through the software.
For this purpose, Article Submitter Pro allowed for private article directory inclusion via the DIY tab in the Article Submissions window. This enabled individual users to add directories to their copies of the software only.

Changes in version 2
Naturally, adding components to an existing software over time has the tendency of making it "bulky" and more complicated to use. Of course that wasn't the intent, and all efforts were made to add these new features in in the best possible way.
But now its time to streamline things a bit, and so the primary goal for version 2 was to do just that.
All 1,500+ users were asked to give their feedback about what they find difficult and time consuming, plus they were asked if they'd like to see anything new added.
You can see how they responded on the main page.
The following is a list of changes and additions to version 2:
- RegAssist moved from being a separate component and incorporated in the submission window for each directory
- RegAssist is now "smart" and can detect if a directory has been registered or not at the time of submission
- Multiple Favorites are now allowed and can be assigned to different author identities
- Favorites can now be categorize by niche
- Author identities can now have their own separate login and password for each directory
- The submission process now allows unlimited articles submitted per directory in one session
- The Manual Submissions window is eliminated and all directories are now in one window
- New technology added to enable directories with field problems to fill in with a minimum amount of user input
- Social Submitter Pro added as a standard tool and submits your story to 50+ social sites including Digg, Propeller, and StumbleUpon
- Complete Submission History shows all articles submitted per author, and/or all articles submitted per designated date. Printable.
